As a child I grew up with many hopeful and happy songs in church, in musicals, in television shows, and on the radio. It was a wonderful foundation to my love of joyful music.
One of the early songs I heard on the radio was written by Dale Evans for children and what a simple yet promising development of character plus the reinforcement of scripture into a little girl’s life. “Have faith, hope, and charity; that’s the way to live successfully. How do I know? The Bible tells me so. Be good to your enemies and the blessed Lord you’ll surely please. How do I know? The Bible tells me so.”
Even the rest of the song was helpful in that young life. “Don’t worry about tomorrow, just be real good today. The Lord is right beside you, He’ll guide you all the way. So have faith, hope, and charity; that’s the way to live successfully. How do I know? The Bible tells me so.”
May we remember that God’s call to us is not difficult but quite simple. “Now abideth faith, hope, and charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.” (1 Cor.13:13) Yes, faith, hope, and charity!
